Acknowledgements

I would like to thank all the folks who have helped me in making this website the way it is today. I certainly couldn’t have gathered all the resources from across the UK (and beyond!) by myself, and I am very grateful to all those who offered their support to me during development.

Thank you to all the many Deaf folks I have met through work or social events. All of your stories and experiences about the lack of Deaf awareness in the hearing world is my inspiration for this website. Without your kindness and patience, I would still be ignorant to many injustices.

I want to also thank Julie for allowing me to shadow her workspace and demonstrating to me how a Deaf professional can work in an all-Hearing environment. I am particularly touched by your ongoing activism and demanding better in the medical/veterinary industry. I am fighting alongside you.

A huge thank you to my close friends and family who encouraged me to take the plunge and make this website a reality. A special thanks to Sophie and Kieran, both of who are always happy to be on the receiving end of my info dumps on all things BSL. Emma has also been an inspirational figure, and I am glad to have you all in my life. Dan, you have also been a forerunner for what it means to be an ally to the Deaf community, and have motivated many Hearing folks to take note of Deaf activism and BSL teaching. You also have motivated me to step out of my comfort zone. The future of Deaf-Hearing togetherness is looking bright.

I also want to extend my thanks to my BSL teachers over the years: John, Deborah, and Bob. You have all taught me not just BSL, but Deaf culture, and given me a strong foundation empower Deaf lives inside and outside of the UK. Bob especially has provided me with the self-esteem and confidence to accept my place in the Deaf community, both as a member and an ally.

Having been reaching out to Universities with Deaf / Sign Language Societies, I am so very grateful to those who responded with equal enthusiasm. I am particularly thankful for the suggestions of additions from the following University Societies:

  • Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd (Leonie)
  • Edinburgh University (Stefi)
  • Heriot Watt University (Billy-Jack)
  • Imperial College London (Ellen)
  • King’s College London (Naz)
  • University College London (Batool)
  • University of Dundee (Maddie)
  • University of Kent (Pav)
  • University of Leeds (Olivia)
  • York St. John University (Olivia)

I would also like to thank everyone who has emailed me with advice and suggestions. This is certainly an ongoing project, and I could not keep as up-to-date and accurate without everyone’s contributions.

Finally, thank you all who have taken the time to visit my website!
