About

I’m Alex, and I am Hard of Hearing (HOH) and a BSL user.

I first started learning BSL after a teacher suggested I did because I was struggling to listen in class, only to find out they didn’t know any themselves– I would still struggle to understand them whilst they could understand me.

It left me feeling frustrated, and this feeling spurred me on to encourage others to learn BSL, Deaf culture/awareness, and Disability Rights in UK and abroad.

Throughout my learning journey, I began to notice that many Hearing people were not aware of the resources available to them. As someone on many Deaf/HOH forums and Facebook pages, I kept seeing people ask the same questions again and again, asking for advice, or where to find certain information, or where to even begin.

Similarly, I also would sometimes discover a charity or organisation that my Deaf teachers and friends had yet to know about! I began to wonder if there was a way to get all the resources onto one, simple website, so people would be able to find answers to their questions more easily…

After many months of planning, I finally got round to publishing
BSL Learning Resources!

This is certainly an ongoing project, as I will continue to be educated on all things BSL and Deaf related. In the meantime, I hope you all find something useful 🙂
